Line Heaters

To establish the project design basis for “Line Heaters”, confirm “Line flow and outlet conditions” and its inputs: Record fluid flow and properties, inlet pressure/temperature, required outlet temperature, allowable pressure drop and load variation. Final values, supply limits and acceptance criteria are recorded in approved engineering documents; no generic capacity or catalogue guarantee is assumed.

Line Heaters

From project definition to delivery

Engineering intent and design approach

Engineering of Line Heaters concentrates on required heat duty, bath temperature, fire-tube heat flux, process-coil pressure drop, burner turndown, freeze protection, expansion and low-level safeguarding. The selected configuration is verified against normal, minimum, start-up, shutdown and credible upset cases, then checked for operability, maintainability, energy use, process safety and site interfaces before the design is frozen.

The design basis for Line Heaters is defined from service data, design conditions, and battery limits. For this equipment, Line flow and outlet conditions and Fuel and process conditions must be completed in the datasheet and design documents; performance values and guarantees are set only after the project basis is approved.

Mechanical design and materials

Materials, corrosion allowance, sour-service requirements, piping classes, nozzle design, insulation, coating, supports and maintenance access are coordinated with the actual process conditions and project code hierarchy.

Control, safeguarding and operation

Control philosophy, alarms and trips, cause-and-effect logic, interlocks, start-up and shutdown sequences, safe depressurization and operator access are developed consistently from the P&IDs through functional testing.

Layout, utilities and interfaces

Battery limits, tie-in points, structural loads, cabling, instrumentation, drains, vents, access routes, lifting envelopes and shipping constraints are controlled through coordinated models and interface drawings.

Clear inputs and contract-ready outputs

Proposal quality depends on complete input data and an explicit acceptance basis. The following lists provide a practical starting point and are completed during technical clarification.

Recommended RFQ information

  • “Fuel and process conditions”: Specify fuel composition/pressure/heating value, target temperature, pressure drop, site conditions and emission limits.
  • “Furnace, burner and heat-transfer surfaces”: Define radiant/convection arrangement, coils/tubes, burner, refractory, draft and cleaning strategy for the service.
  • Site and ambient data, hazardous-area classification and HSE requirements
  • Available utilities with pressure, temperature and capacity
  • Applicable standards, materials, supply limits and owner document formats

Typical engineering and supply deliverables

Technical Datasheet

Technical Datasheet — Line Heaters

The duty, body-size and coil-pressure figures are published line-heater examples. They span different models and suppliers and do not define a single combined design envelope.

Published equipment-family or project data only; not a universal standard limit or Delham rating/guarantee.
ParameterPublished valueReference basisApplicability / limit
Standard-series heater duty75,000 Btu/h–4 MMBtu/hPublished standard-series range in a manufacturer catalogue for indirect natural-gas line heaters.Selected heater size and duty depend on flow, inlet pressure/temperature, choke pressure drop and hydrate margin.
Custom heater duty / frame size exampleUp to 15 MMBtu/h; up to 120 in ODPublished custom line-heater offer across project-specific layouts.Custom limit is not a standard series rating; shipping, burner, coil and pressure-boundary constraints govern.
Published process-coil pressure span50–10,000 psiPublished options for a separate coiled-heater product line.Pressure depends on coil model and code design; do not pair the maximum pressure automatically with maximum heater duty.
