Flare Tips

To establish the project design basis for “Flare Tips”, confirm “Flare gas, flame stability and tip outlet” and its inputs: Define gas composition and flow envelope, pressure/temperature, flame characteristics, smoke/noise limits and site radiation or permit constraints. Final values, supply limits and acceptance criteria are recorded in approved engineering documents; no generic capacity or catalogue guarantee is assumed.

Flare Tips

From project definition to delivery

Engineering intent and design approach

Engineering of Flare Tips concentrates on credible relief and blowdown loads, liquid disengagement, radiation, dispersion, noise, smokeless capacity, sealing, ignition reliability and safe plot-plan separation. The selected configuration is verified against normal, minimum, start-up, shutdown and credible upset cases, then checked for operability, maintainability, energy use, process safety and site interfaces before the design is frozen.

The design basis for Flare Tips is defined from service data, design conditions, and battery limits. For this equipment, Flare gas, flame stability and tip outlet and Backpressure and site location must be completed in the datasheet and design documents; performance values and guarantees are set only after the project basis is approved.

Mechanical design and materials

Materials, corrosion allowance, sour-service requirements, piping classes, nozzle design, insulation, coating, supports and maintenance access are coordinated with the actual process conditions and project code hierarchy.

Control, safeguarding and operation

Control philosophy, alarms and trips, cause-and-effect logic, interlocks, start-up and shutdown sequences, safe depressurization and operator access are developed consistently from the P&IDs through functional testing.

Layout, utilities and interfaces

Battery limits, tie-in points, structural loads, cabling, instrumentation, drains, vents, access routes, lifting envelopes and shipping constraints are controlled through coordinated models and interface drawings.

Clear inputs and contract-ready outputs

Proposal quality depends on complete input data and an explicit acceptance basis. The following lists provide a practical starting point and are completed during technical clarification.

Recommended RFQ information

  • “Backpressure and site location”: Specify allowable header/nozzle pressure, disposal route, location/elevation, wind and permit/site constraints.
  • “Outlet arrangement and combustion stability”: Define tip type, gas flow/composition, purge or assist if required, flame stability, smoke and noise basis from the project.
  • Site and ambient data, hazardous-area classification and HSE requirements
  • Available utilities with pressure, temperature and capacity
  • Applicable standards, materials, supply limits and owner document formats

Typical engineering and supply deliverables

Technical Datasheet — Flare Tips

The figures below belong to one steam-assisted flare-tip family. They are not a flare-system capacity guarantee or universal emission limit.

Published equipment-family or project data only; not a universal standard limit or Delham rating/guarantee.

Published tip-size range12–120 in (305–3,050 mm)Published size range for one steam-assisted flare-tip family.Tip diameter alone does not determine system capacity; relief cases, gas properties, assist medium, radiation, noise, and backpressure govern.
Steam supply pressure50–250 psig (3.45–17.25 barg)Published steam-pressure suitability for the cited family.Confirm steam quality, temperature, pressure at the manifold, nozzle losses, and minimum continuous flow for the selected operating case.
Hydrocarbon destruction example≥98.5%Published performance claim for the cited tip family. Not a universal regulatory DRE or guarantee; the test method, compounds, flow, assist, and operating envelope must match.
High-stability pilot wind test150 mph (241 km/h)Published test condition for the pilot supplied with the cited tip family.A component test result; not the flare system site wind design basis or an all-weather operating guarantee.
